On Friday, May 18, four Justin Dorsey Plumbing associates graduated their four-year apprenticeship program — Michael Rodgers, Zach Personnett, Kirby Boyd and Aaron Champley. Owners, Justin Dorsey and his wife, Judy, were on hand to celebrate the achievement.
“We count ourselves lucky to have a team of plumbers dedicated to their trade,” Justin said. “This is a very comprehensive program, and it takes dedication to complete it. These guys stuck with it, and I’m proud to have them on our team.”
To complete this program, the graduates had to complete:
- 576 classroom hours
- 7,600 on-the-job training hours
“I’m grateful to be done,” Michael said. “Four years is a long time, but, looking back, it really has set me up to succeed in this trade.”
Rodgers credits the combination of classroom and on-the-job training for preparing him, and he has one bit of advice for others considering a plumbing apprenticeship: “Go for it!”
“Skilled trades are in high demand, and a career in plumbing is a great way to make a living,” Michael said. “Being a licensed plumber gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment and can open a door for many different opportunities.”
All four graduates are now eligible to take the state journeyman licensing exam. Congratulations!
